The company has just been awarded a large contract for the building of 77 low carbon homes on the former Royal Navy Officers field on Portland. Instructions have been received from Zero C of Poundbury, Dorchester, who are the UK's premier sustainable developers. The five acre site is situated
on the north side of Victoria Road with views to Portland Harbour. Within the development there will be 19 affordable homes for local people which will be built for the Magna Housing Association. All the homes are being built to level 4 of the code for sustainable homes and wood pellet boilers, rainwater harvesting system and solar water heating will be used within the development. Work has just started on site and will be completed in December 2011.
The project is the latest step in the RDA's £40 million regeneration of the former Royal Navy Air Station where it hopes to create 1,400 jobs by 2016, leaving a lasting economic legacy. The RDA bought the Air Station in 2000 and it was subsequently selected as the venue for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games sailing events
This contract fits well with the company's expansion programme and the company are pleased to be working with Zero C.
