Refurbishment of the King’s House dormitories

Work is due to commence in April 2018 on a £1.3 million refurbishment of the King’s House dormitories on the Sherborne International school campus at Newell Grange.

The aim is to improve student and staff facilities; partly through provision of en-suite accommodation, re-arranging internal layouts to a staff flat and adding four dormitories to the Northern end.

The existing facility is a series of dormitories constructed in the 1990s on a former coal yard. The four new dormitories, circa 60m2 will be created by a modest conversion of the existing loft space. The proposed extension will raise the eaves and ridge height by approx. 1.2m with no increase to the current building footprint.

Kings House sits on a site of historical & architectural importance, sharing the grounds with Newell Grange (Grade II listed) and Emerenciana (Grade II* listed). The choice of materials for the external works will be in keeping with the existing building and will not affect the setting of the buildings of architectural importance.

The project is due to commence in April 2018.
