Somerset’s First Zero Carbon Home

Acheson Construction Ltd of Dorchester in conjunction with their clients ZeroC are pleased to announce that they have started constructing Somerset’s first zero carbon home on the Glove Factory site in Yeovil.

The development consists of 37 residential units built to varying levels of sustainability together with work suites and small shops and one house will achieve code level 6 which constitutes a zero carbon rating.

The design for this unit uses an ultra modern construction called Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) and includes the following features:-

■ Solar Photovoltaic 4.5 kW array
■ Triple glazed windows
■ High air-tightness
■ Low energy lighting
■ Biomass heating & hot water
■ Mechanical ventilation & heat recovery
■ Greywater recycling
■ Flexible accommodation.
