The new Southern Co-op convenience store opened its doors to the Abbotswood community on 13 April 2017 in time for the Easter trade as planned. The new store will serve the 800 newly built homes on the Abbotswood development as well as those existing households adjacent to the 52-hectare site.
The convenience store forms part of the Abbotswood village centre which also includes a public house, community centre, doctor's surgery, day nursey and retail units. Acheson negotiated the design and construction of the convenience store with its developer client Perbury Group who own the land upon which the village centre will be developed. The convenience store is one of a number of projects Acheson have secured through Perbury including residential developments at Ampfield, Andover and Salisbury.
Acheson has successfully delivered the Abbotswood community centre which will be managed by the Abbotswood Community Association. The Southern Co-op has selected the association as their new fund-raising partners which is a real boost for the association which is run as a charity entirely by volunteer. The community centre will be home to many fundraising and social events and will provide a hub for local people to come together.
