Village Hall, Charlton Down, Dorchester

As part of a Section 106 commitment, Bellway instructed Acheson to refurbish and extend the existing listed building on the former Herrison Hospital site near Dorchester.  The contract was awarded on a negotiated design and build basis following the successful completion of the Charlton Down cricket pavilion, another Section 106 commitment by Bellway on the same site.

The existing building had been left un-maintained and partially demolished following the closure of the hospital in 1992.  The design and build contract included the refurbishment of the main hall including the total rebuilding of the from gable elevation and a wraparound extension providing toilet, kitchen, storage and two function rooms.

The village hall is the focal point of this 500 hundred new dwelling village on the edge of Dorchester and regularly hosts community groups and classes as well as weddings, corporate events and the like.
