AEUK Production Facility, Winfrith

Atlas Elektronik UK Ltd is a leading provider of science and technology solutions to the UK Ministry of Defence, the Royal Navy and other defence departments.

Within the Dorset area, AEUK is one of the largest employers of scientific and technical staff with a workforce of over 300 employees. AEUK has seen a significant increase in business over the past seven years however the constraints of their existing building would have affected the long-term future at its current location.

The design proposal was to construct a new production facility which would support AEUK delivering larger products. The new building needed to have an un-interrupted clear height internally, with a 20 tonne crane that would operate the full length and width of the building. The building's external envelope was formed with insulated cladding, primarily of light blue with darker blue trims. Natural light was provided by a 15% translucent roof covering. Access to the building for the new products required 8.5m and 6m roller shutter doors. Control of security is vital to the business as a defence company and the new facility was surrounded by a 2.5m high security fence and gates.

This new facility will help to move the company forward to deliver the planned sales growth in the next few years within its current location.
